A flowerbed in a prominent location in the spa town of Merano. It forms a link between the old town and the culturally and historically significant winter promenade. Today, it is dominated by the sculpture "Il cavallo di Maia" by avant-garde artist Aligi Sassu. The promenade is characterized by the riverbed of the Passer River, featuring large stones and natural riparian vegetation. The idea for the bed: a grove of trees with multi-stemmed willows (salix alba) in the characteristic bamboo shape. It serves as a spatial densification, but also to provide a worthy setting for Aligiu Sassu's artwork and provide cooling shade in the hot summer months. Beneath the willow grove: a composition of selected Passer stones and – in keeping with the Wilhelminian design – underplanting with white-flowering azaleas.
